In March 2013, Art in Halland invited visual artists to apply for residence scholarship to Finland and Taiwan. Based on the applications, the jury decided that the grants should be awarded to artists Charlotte Boman and Christin Wahlström Eriksson.
Charlotte Boman (born in 1972) is living in Vallda outside Kungsbacka. She studied at the Valand Art School, 1984-2004, and is primarily working with photography. Boman is awarded the grant to visit KultturiKauppila, Ii, Finland ”for her up-close depictions of places undergoing a transformation, locations where everything seems to have stopped in its tracks and where there is time for reflection. There is great potential in her searching method of working, which we believe will develop further during her stay in Finland“.
Christin Wahlström Eriksson (born in 1979) has grown up in the Falkenberg area and is nowadays living in Gothenburg. She studied at the Valand Art School, 2003-2008, and works with painting, as well as sculpture and installations. Wahlström Eriksson is awarded the grant at the Bamboo Curtain Studio in Taipei, Taiwan “for her multifaceted artistry, competence when it comes to materials and her ability to create significant, interesting connections between the contemporary world, history and its traditions“.
This year, 2013, the scholarships are awarded for the second time. The jury consisted of Jonas Nilsson, Intendant at Kulturhuset Borgen, Gislaved as well as representatives from Art in Halland. The final decisions were made by each respective host institution in Finland and Taiwan.
