In April 2014, Art in Halland invited visual artists to apply for a residence scholarship at the Bamboo Curtain Studio in Taipei, Taiwan. Based on the applications, the jury decided to award artist Krystallia Sakellariou the grant.
Krystallia Sakellariou (born 1977) grew up in the village of Karl Gustav and is now living and working in Gothenburg. She has, among other places, studied at Gothenburg University specialising on international museum studies as well as art history and visual studies. Sakellariou has a project-based approach and works interactively with painting, photography, sculpture and architecture. The works of art evolves over time and grow into animations, videos or location-specific installations.
Krystallia Sakellariou is awarded this grant “for her multifaceted artistry, which encompasses a number of expressive formats. By experimenting with perspectives, illusions and scales, she manages to create experiences where people and places can travel through time and space. We believe her stay in Taiwan will enable and lead to further development of her explorative methods“.
