Kungsbacka pupils claim their space in public areas! During the autumn of 2015, a new project began in Kungsbacka, where approximately 50 students from three secondary schools embraced the theme of “The identity of Kungsbacka Town in a transformational phase” together with animator Kim Johansson and sound artist Gustav Lejelind.
Together they have explored public areas and tackled the task in a process-driven format, gathered and portrayed locations, to then create something of their own with different materials and technical equipment. After all this, the pupils have utilised animations, objects, sounds and projections to highlight various thoughts, topics and issues that have materialised along the way.
This project has been aimed at pupils at three different schools, namely Hålabäck, Hede och Älvsåkersskolan. The goal was to make the pupils aware of public decor and architecture in our immediate surroundings and how it affects us. Kungsbacka town centre is undergoing a renovation phase. As part of the project scope, the art teachers at these schools wanted to find a creative way of letting the pupils play a part in the development of Kungsbacka’s new identity. To aid this process, they have utilised the IKT-pedagogs in Kungsbacka, who have helped out with technical equipment, knowhow, expertise and innovative solutions.
The pupils have met with the artists on several occasions, but also worked on their own between these get-togethers with the artists.
On the 14-20 March, the project was presented as a video installation at Kulturhuset Fyren under the heading ‘Gather, observe and transform – an art project about the identity of a town’. The project was organised with the support of Art in Halland/Art Express and Cultural Council/Creative Schools.
