Foundiverse – risen from the woods (2019)

Together with artist Peter Davidson, all pupils at Landeryd School (pre-school to year 6) created sculptures using materials they found in the forest. They had several sessions with Peter. During the first session, Peter took each class to the forest to gather their materials. The next time they met, they built sculptures from what they found, and during the third session, they put on an exhibition to show off their art pieces.

Branches, bark, and other findings became individual sculptures that jointly formed a new world built from found materials – a Foundiverse.

The purpose of the project was to playfully create freely with materials primarily found in the forest while also fostering an interest and respect for nature. We based our work on the forest being a resource for artistic creation, too, and offered a language and a way to express oneself beyond words. The project was characterised by ecological sustainability and local collaboration and was linked to the curriculum, especially in subjects such as biology/natural science and art.

The Foundiverse exhibition was publicly displayed at the IOGT-NTO premises in Landeryd on 29 September 2020. The project was connected to the Art in Halland’s residency Fresh Forest AiR in the Hylte municipality.
