Between 1 and 20 September, Sabine Wedege from Aarhus, Denmark, enjoyed a residency scholarship in Varberg. The residency period was part of an exchange program between Art in Halland and Aarhus Billedkunstcenter Aabkc.
In her work, Sabine Wedege looks for connections and links between yesteryear and the present day, touching upon aspects of Nordic folklore, identity matters, conflicts, and boundaries. She is process-driven and works primarily with sculpture but also with text, video, and sound. During her time in Halland, Sabine has explored cultural heritage sites, monuments, and the Danish-Swedish past. She worked out of the Artists’ Collective Workshop (KKV) in Varberg.
“My pieces are a twisted take on well-known objects, tools and references with elements of humour, kitsch and pop aesthetics. I mix materials with culture to reflect today’s society with a touch of humour. When combined, new symbols and stories are forged.”

Sabine Wedege has studied at The Jutland Art Academy (DJK) and Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Arts in Belgrad and Writing School in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.
In parallel with Sabine’s sojourn, Halmstad-based artist Magnus Sjöbleke travels to Godsbanen in the centre of Aarhus and Riddergade AIR in Viborg, Denmark. Magnus was awarded Art in Halland’s scholarship in 2022.
