A beach is a world of its own, a transitional zone between sea and land. With its own rules and norms, it exists in parallel to but separately from other places. Here society’s usual rules are to some extent upended, and other kinds of relationships, behaviours and meanings are allowed to emerge. Occasionally other realities from the outside world wash up on shore.
