In the autumn of 2021, Canadian artist Matt Shane arrives in Laholm to stay and work there for approximately two weeks. His colleague Jim Holyoak participated online. The residency project was a joint venture between Teckningsmuseet and Art in Halland.
Born in Vancouver in 1981, Matt Shane is an artist and art teacher in Montréal. Jim Holyoak was born in the US in 1978 but grew up in the small town of Aldergrove in Canada. Today, he is based in British Columbia and works as an artist and author. Matt and Jim have collaborated for 20 years or so, and their pieces have been on display all over the world, the last venue being the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham, England.
One of their trademarks is large-scale installations of drawings that will cover most of the walls. Matt arrived in Laholm in October, and with Jim participating online, they started creating their Walloways exhibition tailored to suit the venue. Walloways was displayed at Teckningsmuseet from 16 October 2021 to 23 January 2022.
The residency, including the exhibition, should have been carried out in the spring/summer of 2020, but was postponed (twice) due to the Corona pandemic.
