This project was developed by artist Kim Johansson and tutors at two schools in Varberg, namely Almers Skola and Buaskolan.
The using artistic expressions, the pupils of year 4 and the tutors from these two schools wanted to develop their ability to present their knowledge in subjects suchas Social Science and Natural Science. Their wish was to work with digital tools, photo or film in their own creative process. Everyone were supposed to be able to join in regardless of their own abilities and skills. This was presented in their “Creative Schools” application, which turned into the basis of the project.
The first time the pupils got to meet Kim was in an animated introductory film, where he told them a little bit about himself, showed them various animation techniques and told them about the project.
The pupils worked in groups of three and stopped at five different animation stations. These stops or stations offered different format options. Some worked with clay, some with objects, some with cut-out animation etc. To start with, the pupils had to work with a story board, where they got to sketch and write down their story, which was then animated by the computers, in front of a camera. The animation equipment was partly borrowed from the artist and partly from the Art Museum of Halland County/Art in Halland.
At Almers skola, the pupils had worked on the theme of birds and at Buaskolan, they chose to focus on Genesis and other theories of the origin of life.
